The annual Forbes list of the richest Americans is out. No surprise here, the richest American is Bill Gates, with a net worth of a cool $54 billion. It is his 16th straight year topping the list. Rounding out the top three are Warren Buffett and Larry Ellison.
“America’s super rich are getting poorer. For only the fifth time since 1982, the collective net worth of The Forbes 400, our annual tally of the nation’s richest people, has declined, falling $300 billion in the past 12 months from $1.57 trillion to $1.27 trillion.”
No tears are being shed here.

The biggest surprise of the list may be the debut appearance of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, whose net worth surged 245%. He’s actually richer than Steve Jobs now.
And as if to justify his wealth, the Wall Street Journal says Zuckerberg will give a hundred million dollars to the Newark public school system, which he’ll announce this week on Oprah. The Daytime legend made the list herself at 130. She’s worth $2.7 billion.
