Toward the top of the cresting (or possibly swelling) wave of tablets

John Moe Jan 6, 2011

Two tablets that are getting a lot of press coming out of CES are Motorola’s Xoom and RIM’s PlayBook. The Xoom runs on Android and Motorola is likely hoping it can rise to the top of the Android heap in a similar way the Droid did with smartphones.

1GHz processor, 2-megapixel front camera, 5-megapixel rear camera and 1280×800 display, plus DMI output, 1080p HD video support, 720p video shooting, gyroscope, barometer, e-compass, accelerometer.

Runs on 3G in Q1 when it comes out, moving up to 4G LTE in Q2.

The PlayBook has a 7-inch screen, so a bit smaller and a bit more reminiscent of a BlackBerry. It will be carried exclusively by Sprint. Sprint? Sprint! The RC Cola of carriers.
