MIDDAY UPDATE: Verizon iPhone, Trans Alaska oil pipeline leak

Katharine Crnko Jan 10, 2011

Tomorrow will be a big day for Verizon Wireless, as the company is expected to announce it soon will offer customers the Apple iPhone. Since the iPhone’s release four years ago, Apple has had an exclusive contract with AT&T. AT&T has had notoriously poor coverage, though that hasn’t stopped it from selling more than 45 million iPhones last year.

In another public relations snafu for BP, the Trans Alaska Pipeline was shut down over the weekend due to a leak at a pumping station. According to reports, only 10 barrels of oil have leaked into a pumping station. Analysts are concerned about the impact on oil prices.

And for all you football fans out there — we hope you didn’t buy tickets for tonight’s BCS Championship game on StubHub. Due to a broker error, the online ticket retailer sold tickets that never actually existed. Stubhub now has to buy back hundreds of thousands of dollars in unfulfilled orders — not a good kick-off to 2011.
