You can block search spam on Google

John Moe Mar 11, 2011

New feature on the search engine
lets you block sites you don’t want to see so they’ll never come up again in your searches. You’ll need a Google account to do it (one wonders if they’re collecting your blocks and doing some counter-intuitive marketing as a result). Google had previously launched a Chrome extension that did this same thing but now its built into the web functionality itself. The move is a reaction to the increasing heat the company has been receiving about all the junk results you get on search from advertisers successfully gaming the SEO (search engine optimization) system.

There’s a lot happening in the world.  Through it all, Marketplace is here for you.

You rely on Marketplace to break down the world’s events and tell you how it affects you in a fact-based, approachable way. We rely on your financial support to keep making that possible.

Your donation today powers the independent journalism that you rely on. For just $5/month, you can help sustain Marketplace so we can keep reporting on the things that matter to you.
