iPad 2 is at Radio Shack

John Moe Mar 29, 2011

Which says more about Radio Shack than it does about iPad or Apple. Starting today, you’ll be able to walk into one of 500 Radio Shacks nationwide and buy an iPad 2. This is a huge deal for people waiting to get one of the devices because who would think to go to Radio Shack to get one. I mean, Radio Shack is the home of robot toys that don’t work well, weird converter plugs, and equipment for aerial TV antennas. But Radio Shack is trying to reinvent itself as a device retailer, a platform-agnostic clearinghouse of phones, tablets, and small electronics. Like Best Buy but without the TVs and size. It will be interesting to see if they can pull off this high tech branding when one of their names is “Radio” and the other one is “Shack”.
