Certificate Authority infrastructure problem grows

John Moe Apr 6, 2011

The Electronic Frontier Foundation has found that 37,000 certificates have been given out to unauthorized names. That means you could be subjected to “man in the middle” attacks, where you go to a website, you think you’re at that website – everything looks the same, but you’re not really at that website. You’re at a website that looks like the one you want to go to, but it’s a fake site designed to monitor your actions and/or get your personal information.

There’s a lot happening in the world.  Through it all, Marketplace is here for you.

You rely on Marketplace to break down the world’s events and tell you how it affects you in a fact-based, approachable way. We rely on your financial support to keep making that possible.

Your donation today powers the independent journalism that you rely on. For just $5/month, you can help sustain Marketplace so we can keep reporting on the things that matter to you.
