Wii 2 on the way

John Moe Apr 15, 2011

A ton of sites are citing multiple sources
as saying that the next edition of the Wii is on the way and will be announced at this summer’s E3 gaming expo or maybe sooner. The Wii 2 sounds like it will be along the lines of the Xbox in terms of being an HD media player as well as a gaming platform, so it could be a home entertainment hub instead of just being the thing you never actually play Wii Fit on. Considering the enormous success of the Wii, Nintendo might not have felt much pressure to rush a new edition of Wii to market although some industry types have wondered why they haven’t tried to improve on it.

In other Nintendo news, the 3DS is said to have sold 400,000 units in its first week of release. That’s way behind how the DS did in its first week but that was in November and people were buying them as gifts for surly recalcitrant children who didn’t appreciate them.
