It’s only in Portland, Oregon so far but set to spread soon. This is Google’s competitor to Groupon and it’s meant to be used in conjunction with the Google Wallet we’ve been hearing so much about. The idea is that you’ll hear about deals in your local neighborhood (because Google knows where you live, where you are, what you think about your mother), the merchant will get new customers, and everyone will use their phones to pay. Offers was announced by deposed Google honcho Eric Schmidt at the All Things D conference, where he also said he regrets moving too slowly on social media. Turns out moving slowly is a bad thing in tech.
