DigiTimes is reporting that Apple has ordered production of 15 million iPhone 5s to be ready in September. This news apparently comes from component suppliers who serve Taiwan-based electronics company Pegatron Technology, which will supply parts. You don’t care what Pegatron Technology is, I’m just illustrating the vast network of suppliers and how third-hand this news is. Anyway. Yeah. 15 million is a lot of phones. This despite reports that El Cinco might be a minor upgrade to the iPhone 4. If that’s the case and Apple still expects to sell this many and pulls it off, that tells us that Apple can manufacture desire on the part of the customer.
It also tells us that things are about to get crazy at Chinese factories trying to meet this high production output. This means longer days for Chinese factory workers, more pressure from bosses, and potential ugliness.
