Fox News Twitter hacked

John Moe Jul 5, 2011

What do we call that? Twhacked? Let’s call it Twhacked. Fox News says one of its Twitter feeds was hacked and that’s why the feed had several messages about President Obama being shot and killed while campaigning in Iowa. It happened shortly after midnight yesterday. Looks like the hackers must have guessed a password, possibly with some password guessing software (easily obtained through back channels). After posting these horrible tweets, which could be read by the account’s 37,000 followers, the hackers then changed the password so Fox wasn’t able to log on and erase them. Presumably because it was after midnight and on a holiday, getting Twitter to help out was difficult so the messages stayed up for many hours.

The Secret Service is investigating as is Twitter.
