This final note today, a slice of Chinese life as just a taste of what’s to come in our series this week.

Taxi fares in Shanghai went up last Friday. Not a whole lot — just two yuan, about 30 cents or so — to drop the flag. A modest sign of inflation.

My advice if you’re in Shanghai? Take the subway. It’s great.
