Showing up unaware in Ads on Facebook

Steve Henn Jul 25, 2011

Last year Facebook came up with the idea of using your name and image to sell products to your Facebook friends on third party sites. Creepy, right? Well a company called AppSumo.com saw that idea and apparently thought, “Awesome.” AddSumo liked the idea so much they are copying it.

John Battle’s Facebook Friends started sending him copies of an add that said, “Love John Battelle? Then you’ll love this step by step guide to create your own side business.” They even stole a picture of John from the back of his most recent book.

Needless to say John was surprised. He contacted Facebook and even the folks there agreed this was an abuse.
