Airbnb is sorry enough to give you a $50,000 guarantee

Adriene Hill Aug 2, 2011

Airbnb, the travel start-up that matches travelers with people looking to rent their home or apartment, is fending off a recent rash of really bad press. Last week, a blogger, EJ wrote about her experience using Airbnb. She left on a business trip and rented her apartment. EJ came back and her home had been ransacked. Since then, several Airbnb customers have been talking about their experiences, like the person who came home to find his place trashed and “meth pipes everywhere.” No good.

In response, the Airbnb CEO announced the company will offer a $50,000 guarantee that will cover “loss or damage due to vandalism or theft caused by an Airbnb guest.” And it’ll make the guarantee retroactive to include EJ and other people who’ve reported damage to the company.
