Google Magnifier

John Moe Aug 18, 2011

This launched yesterday and it’s being variously described as a magazine or a service. The idea is to help users of Google’s still-in-beta music service find free songs and discover new artists. There are videos of live performances as well as artist interviews. Two tracks from beard-rockers My Morning Jacket are available for free at the moment. There’s a huge feature build out going on right now as Google tries to make its cloud music service more attractive than the one Amazon has already launched or the one Apple will launch this fall.

This also makes me wonder how confusing things must be at Google right now. The company is expanding in all directions all at once. While a land rush mentality might be beneficial in new spaces so Google can homestead emerging opportunities, it also seems like a whole lot of plates spinning atop a whole lot of sticks.

There’s a lot happening in the world.  Through it all, Marketplace is here for you.
