Big hack attempt on AT&T

John Moe Nov 22, 2011

According to AT&T anyway, which revealed the attempt in a letter to subscribers. The company says the attempted break in was a highly organized effort that used automated processes to link mobile numbers with login credentials. Less than 1% of the network’s customers were affected, though that still works out to about a million people. It’s interesting to see such a proactive approach to warning the public going on here since it comes at a time when Congress is discussing legislation to mandate a process by which a hacked company informs customers of any breach. This AT&T thing might be totally unrelated to that but it would be a good way to let Congress know that further regulation is unnecessary. Regardless, it shows that big networks are targets for the baddies.
