The score of Central Park

Marc Sanchez Dec 8, 2011

Brothers Ryan and Hays Holladay, make up the electro-pop band, Bluebrain, and they’ve just released a new album… er, app… er geo-locator. Well, they’ve just released something that they call “Central Park (Listen to the Light),” for iPhones and iPads. Download the free app, take a stroll through Central Park, and let Bluebrain’s music take over. Using geo-location software, different musical themes begin to sprout up, by going to different areas of the park. From the New York Times: “The themes layer over one another, growing in volume as you approach certain points on the map and fading out as you move away. It’s a musical Venn diagram placed over the landscape, and at any time you might have two dozen tracks playing in your ears, all meshing and colliding in surprising ways.”

The brothers released a similar kind of walking tour earlier this year for the National Mall and have since refined the software. They’re financing it all on their own dime right now hope to make money in the future, if the idea catches on.
