Heritage Foundation comes out against SOPA

John Moe Jan 18, 2012

I think an under-reported element in all this SOPA business is the strange bedfellows that it has made. After all the budget ceiling business last summer, it seemed that we had finally settled into a complete partisan gridlock with both parties entrenched against each other. But SOPA and PIPA are opposed and supported by members of both parties and for a variety of reasons. And now you have the very conservative Heritage Foundation also coming out against the bills, thus joining forces with liberal groups like MoveOn.org.

Hillicon Valley quotes Heritage:

“While the federal government does have a role in protecting intellectual property rights, it should do so in a way that does not weaken internet security, disrupt growth or restrict free speech rights,” the Heritage Foundation’s advocacy arm wrote in a blog post. “To date, SOPA and PIPA fail to meet that standard.”
