The U.S. GDP grew at a rate of 2.8 percent at the end of last year. Gross Domestic Product is a measure of all the goods and services the country produces.

Twitter has just announced it will block some tweets, particularly those that violate laws or bans on speech in certain countries.

Ford said this morning its profit in North America is up 33 percent. But the automaker is losing money in Europe and Asia.

Spirits are up in Peoria, Ill. after its hometown company Caterpillar announced its profit jumped 60 percent last quarter. The construction and mining company said its seeing strong demand for equipment in developing countries.

Samsung electronics posted a record profit last quarter more than $4.5 billion. That’s mostly thanks to smart phone sales

To the German Parliament, which had to put big important issues like the European debt crisis aside yesterday because of an email. It was sent by someone named Babette to all staff — that’s 4,000. It said : “please bring me a copy of the new directory.” That kicked off a chain of annoying reply-all responses like: “i’d like to take this opportunity to say hello to my mother.” Then came the emails that said: Please remove me from the list immediately. But in the end, one staffer was happy with the chain Babette started, writing quote: “I think this is great.  We should do this once a month.  It’ll help us grow together.”

Bjork — the eclectic Icelandic singer — has a new gig: Teaching middle school science. In Queens. She will hold a series of classes at a Queens museum and students will write songs and use iPhone apps as part of the lessons. No word on whether students will be able to sing their way out of dissecting a frog.
