Squaw Valley hopes for boost after early storm
Ski resorts are opening today in some parts of California after an early storm dumped several feet of snow on the Sierra Nevada. Today’s open at Squaw Valley in Lake Tahoe is the earliest open in 51 years.
“I think people are pretty excited,” says Paul Currier, the night manager at the Olympic Village Inn at Squaw Valley. Currier thinks the early storm will prime skiers in California and around the country to start thinking about booking winter trips to the Lake Tahoe region over more popular destinations in Colorado.
After last year’s winter, which was one of the driest according to Currier, ski towns in the region are hoping the snowy weather continues. Currier hopes to take advantage himself: “I’ve been skiing up here for 20 years, and I’d like to get out there.”
