Soap opera.com: Can the web save the soap?

Marketplace Staff Jun 21, 2013

The old daytime television staple, the soap opera, is now something of an endangered species on TV.

The Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives are still serving up evil twins and tragic misunderstandings, but most soaps, including Guiding Light, All My Children and One Life to Live are off the air.

And if you don’t think that’s a big deal, think of this: There could be a whole generation of kids growing up who won’t know what amnesia is. Or the dangers of evil twins. Or comas.

Still, there maybe hope for them yet! Web versions of All My Children and One Life to Live are being developed now.

Production of these soaps was stopped after a union wage dispute, which has just been resolved.
