Hyperloop: From L.A. to San Francisco in just 30 minutes

Today billionaire and inventor Elon Musk released his latest plan into the world: the Hyperloop. It’s a high-speed transit plan that aims to get passengers from Los Angeles to San Francisco in less than an hour.

Seems crazy. But Liz Gannes, senior editor at All Things D, says Musk, who’s also in charge of Tesla and SpaceX, has a history of bringing wacky ideas to life.

“[Musk] has described this as a cross between a Concorde jet, a rail gun, and an air hockey table.”

And Gannes says there’s high demand for this type of transportation. “There’s so much discussion about what’s in front of us, just getting from one place to another, so in a way this is almost more exciting and accessible than going to the moon.”
