Alphabet introduces Verily, a private medical research company

As Google reshapes itself into the company now known as Alphabet, we’re getting a peek inside some of the companies under its umbrella. Google X’s Life Sciences group has been renamed to “Verily,” because it wants to paint a true picture of health and disease as an in-house private medical research company. There’s a trend among private companies, like Apple and Microsoft, investing in health research. These investments follow a decrease in medical research funding by the U.S. government over the last 10 years. Marketplace’s Molly Wood explains.
