The White House has tapped Mick Mulvaney’s replacement to run the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the consumer watchdog agency formed in the wake of the financial crisis. Kathy Kraninger is an associate director in the Office of Management and Budget, where Mulvaney has been her boss. Critics worry she has no experience with financial regulations and will simply follow Mulvaney’s lead in restructuring the agency and dismantling its powers. The Trump administration accuses the CFPB of excessive spending and politicized agendas. What’s the CFPB going to look like in the future?
