Turns out, many Americans who purchase a hybrid car end up going back to a non-hybrid the next time they hit the car lot.

Auto sales for the month of March are trickling out this month and so far the numbers look pretty good. Chrysler said it had its best month in four years with sales up 34 percent. Ford also had its best month in years with sales up 5 percent.

As automakers report December sales, several industry analysts predict sales growth of one million new cars this year, to nearly 14 million.

Next week, carmakers will unveil their new models at the North American International Auto Show. Cadillac hopes to make a strong showing in the luxury category, but it's a different story for Ford's struggling Lincoln brand.
